Gear Diary: Streamlight Microstream is one Tough Little Light

I was doing laundry last night and look what I found in the bottom of the washing machine.

Streamlight Microstream

Streamlight Microstream

I had left my Streamlight Microstream in the pocket of a pair of jeans and it went through a full wash and spin cycle.  The Microstream is a great little light.  It delivers 35 lumens with a 2.5 hour run time on one AAA battery.  After muttering an expletive or two, I unscrewed the light to see if water had gotten past the O-Ring.  The inside of the light was bone dry. After crossing my fingers, I did a function check.  Low and behold, it lit up like a champ.  The Microstream is one tough little light.

  1. I agree completely, I use my microstream daily and keep another in my go bag. I have a PROTAC 2 and a PolyTac also. For their price point it’s hard to beat Streamlights products. IMHO they are every bit as good as a Surefire.

I wish there were more flashlight torture tests conducted. Obviously, yours was accidental but I’m glad you shared it. I’ve had a few $100 plus “tactical” flashlights die from much less than this LOL. Elzetta has one where they drop their flashlight out of a helicopter… which I find impressive.

I have a Fenix LD01 that I’ve carried for two years and it’s been washed and dried several times. Works fine and puts out more lumens than that Streamlight.
